A Court of Honor ceremony will be Friday, March 22, at the Scotts Valley Community Center to honor Declan and Thor Oglesby, brothers who recently attained the rank of Eagle Scout, the highest rank in scouting.
Both boys are affiliated with Troop 614 of Scotts Valley.
Thor, 15, attends Scotts Valley Middle School, and Declan, 14, attends Monte Vista Christian School in Watsonville.
The brothers passed their final requirement for the Eagle Scout rank by successfully passing the Eagle Scout Board of Review, which took place Jan. 15.
As part of the requirements for achieving the Eagle rank, each boy was required to complete a major service project for a nonprofit organization.
For his project, Declan painted and refurbished three large signs at the entrance to Scotts Valley City Hall and landscaped the parking islands at the City Hall entrance on Civic Center Drive.
His mentor and guide for the project was Frank Alvarez, director of maintenance with the city. A plaque stands commemorating his work on this project at the foot of one of the refurbished signs.
Thor’s service project included performing major landscaping around the perimeter of the historic Scott House on Civic Center Drive.
He landscaped the rose garden, tore down and removed the old garden fence, installed and painted a new fence and metal arbor entrance and installed a new garden entrance threshold.
Thor’s mentor and guide for the project was Chuck Fetter, president of the Scotts Valley Historical Society.
Thor and Declan are preparing to attend the Boy Scouts of America’s National Jamboree at the new Bechtel Summit in West Virginia with the San Francisco Bay Council of Boy Scouts.
After that, the duo will participate in the Scout Seabase, in which they will participate in a six-day sailing adventure out of the Florida Keys.
