Scotts Valley Chamber gala goes virtual

The Scotts Valley Chamber of Commerce will host “Stayin’ Alive,” its virtual awards gala, on Mar. 13 from 6-8pm on their Facebook page and the My Scotts Valley Facebook page.

The event will feature music and dance, celebrate the 2020 Community Award winners and raise funds for the chamber with a live auction. This year’s theme, “Stayin’ Alive,” is inspired by Woman of the Year, Joanne Guzman’s, Facebook group that provides resources for small businesses in Santa Cruz County.

Tickets are $25 and can be purchased via the Chamber’s website. All funds raised will support local businesses and the chamber.

Danny Reber and Robert Aldana will co-host the event.

Awards winners are:

  • Business of the Year, Tam Communications
  • Woman of the Year, Joanne Guzman
  • Man of the Year, Michael Hanson
  • Educator of the Year, Erik Wyner
  • Youth of the Year. Anika Mistry
  • Organization of the Year, Santa Cruz Moose Lodge
  • Beautification Project of the Year, Glenwood Preserve
  • Honorary Ambassador of the Year, Angela Marshall

Each winner will be queued up by last year’s award winner and then a video profile will roll, featuring members of the community.

The night will kick off with a parody of the Bee Gees’ 1977 hit song “Stayin’ Alive.” The melody for this rendition was written by Bay Area composer, Tom Tomasello, and features Scotts Valley’s Blake Ward as the vocalist.

Musical performances throughout the night will feature students of Bobbie Ward’s Performance Vocals and Sydney Gorham of Mountain Music School along with her dad, Shawn Gorham.

They will perform “How Deep is Your Love” with a video photo montage of community members who submitted their favorite images with their sweethearts. Participants will be automatically entered into an opportunity drawing along with being able to bid on live auction items that will be held throughout the two hours.
