Although ground might not be broken until March, work on the Woodside mixed-use project on Scotts Valley Drive is moving along, developer Jim Sullivan said.
Sullivan, president of Sullivan Land Development LLC, said he plans to send the city his finalized plans for the construction of 50 houses, three commercial buildings and accompanying infrastructure and soil work on the former site of RVs of Merritt within the next month.
The project, which was green-lit in a contentious and drawn-out vote by the Scotts Valley City Council in January, was approved 3-2 after compromises involving parking spaces and easements between houses.
Sullivan and his partner, East Bay-based Castle Cos., closed escrow on the parcel in late May and have been working on the revised plans since then.
Sullivan said he hopes the City Council will vote to approve the finalized plans by late September or early October.
By then, though, Sullivan acknowledged, the weather might no longer be appropriate for working on the sandy soil of Scotts Valley. In that case, preparing the land would likely not begin until March.
Sullivan applauded the city for its welcoming attitude.
“We’ve built a relationship over the past several years,” he said. “The city has been extremely cooperative.”
