
Scotts Valley junior guard Hanna Shehorn erupted for 23 points to help lead the girls’ basketball team to a decisive 60-25 victory over Aptos in the Santa Cruz Coast Athletic League Tournament championship Feb. 14.
Shehorn added five rebounds, three assists and a pair of steals, while teammate freshman Isabelle Jas contributed nine points, 19 rebounds, three steals, two assists and a pair of blocked shots.
Senior guard Sammy Rebbert finished with eight points, six assists, six steals and two rebounds for the Falcons, who capped off the regular season with a 15 game win streak.
Teammate senior Amaya Guerra had eight points, nine rebounds, four steals and a pair of assists, while senior Brooklyn Williams added seven points, four rebounds and two steals.
Scotts Valley improved to 12-0 in SCCAL play this season, including two wins in the end-of-season tourney.
They will now await for the Central Coast Section seeding meeting to take place Feb. 18. Matchup results were not available prior to this publication’s deadline.
The first round of the CCS playoffs begins Feb. 20.
SLV wraps up winter campaign
San Lorenzo Valley closed out its winter season on a five-game losing streak, including a 41-25 loss to Soquel in the opening round of the SCCAL Tourney on Feb. 9.
The Cougars dropped to a 6-14 overall record, and placed fifth with a 2-8 record in league play.

SLV, SV ousted in SCCAL Tourney
San Lorenzo Valley and Scotts Valley each saw their winter campaigns come to an end following losses in the SCCAL Tournament last week.
Scotts Valley reached the semifinals before falling to tourney champion Soquel, 67-36, on Feb. 12. Senior Alex Burgos was the lone Falcon to score in double digits, finishing with 10 points.
Teammate Johnny Miller added eight points, while Braeden Dickenson and Caden Kilpatrick each contributed six points.
Burgos recorded a double-double with 22 points and 10 rebounds as the Falcons slipped past Harbor, 59-57, in the opening round Feb. 9.
Kilpatrick added 14 points, seven rebounds and five steals, while Dickenson finished with nine points.
Freshman Cirion Jacobs had a team-best eight points in SLV’s 65-35 loss to Aptos in the SCCAL Tourney opener Feb. 9.
Teammates Caleb Cox and Wyatt Himmelstrup each added seven points, while Brayden Scoma and Lonan Dickenson each had five points.
SLV finished the winter campaign with a 7-18 overall record while placing sixth in the SCCAL standings with an 0-10 record in league play.
Scotts Valley ended with a 6-18 overall record while placing fifth in the SCCAL standings with a 2-8 record in league play.

SV splits in final week of regular season
Jacob Berman finished with a pair of goals to help lift Scotts Valley past Soquel, 5-0, in SCCAL action Feb. 9.
Teammates Evan Wong, Carter Michaelis and Rafael Moncloa each had one goal, while Mason Hannaleck was credited with one assist.
Goalkeeper Seamus Drees had six saves in front of the net for Scotts Valley (6-6-3), which placed fourth in the SCCAL standings with a 4-6 record in league play.

SLV, SV close out regular season
SLV’s Samantha Lyons had one goal to help lift the Cougars past Soquel, 1-0, in SCCAL action Feb. 10.
Teammate goalkeeper Jenna Stover had eight saves in front of the net for SLV (5-9-2), which placed sixth in the SCCAL standings with a 2-7-1 record in league play.
Scotts Valley junior Jessi Dunn scored once as the Falcons battled to a 1-1 draw against Soquel in SCCAL play Feb. 12.
Teammate senior Isabella Morairty was credited with one assist, while goalkeeper Jazzy Phillips recorded three saves.
Scotts Valley placed tied for third with Soquel in the SCCAL standings with a 3-5-2 record in league play.

SLV’s Attia advances to CCS Masters Meet
SLV junior Gabriel Attia took first place in the heavyweight division at the CCS Southern Regional Tournament at Watsonville High on Feb. 14.
The top eight placers in each of the 14 weight divisions at both the Northern and Southern regional tourneys advanced to this weekend’s Masters Meet at Watsonville High.
Attia punched his ticket to the finals set for Saturday morning at 9am.
The top four placers in each weight division advance to the California Interscholastic Federation State Wrestling Championships at Mechanics Bank Arena in Bakersfield starting Feb. 26.
