Robbie Erlin, a 2009 Scotts Valley High graduate who was drafted by the Texas Rangers, was named South Athletic League Pitcher of the Week for June 21 to 27.
Erlin is 3-1 with a 1.34 earned-run average, the second best mark in the league, for the Single-A Hickory Crawdads of the South Athletic League. Erlin has made eight starts and eight relief appearances and pitched 601/3 innings with 62 strikeouts.
To garner the award, Erlin pitched six hitless innings with eight strikeouts against the Hagerstown Suns on Sunday, June 27. In the 4-1 win, he tossed five perfect innings, at one point striking out seven Suns in a row, before hitting Hagerstown first baseman Brett Newsome to begin the bottom of the sixth. Newsome was the only base runner Erlin allowed.
Erlin was taken out for another pitcher to start the seventh.
Erlin previously threw five perfect innings in his first start of the season, May 18 in Kannapolis, before being relieved.
He was also named to the SAL All-Star team and pitched a scoreless third inning June 22.
