The Scotts Valley Skypark community turned out in full force to celebrate the Fourth of July with the annual Independence Day Kids Bike Parade.

Under a perfect blue sky, about 50 community members were in attendance as youth and their bikes were led in the parade by Scotts Valley Police Chief Steve Walpole, proudly at the wheel of the department’s classic cruiser. The parade also enjoyed a strong escort from a Scotts Valley Fire Department engine, a SVPD motorcycle and a squad car.

Also mingling with the enthusiastic crowd before the event were Scotts Valley City Council Members Donna Lind and Steve Clark, who shared delightful stories of previous years’ parades and the evolving community spirit.

Neighborhood children, with bikes and scooters adorned in vibrant red, white and blue, beamed as fire and police personnel passed out stickers and offered compliments for their truly creative decorations.
