Boys Basketball
The Falcons had a realatively rough season under first year head coach Drew Snelgrove finishing with a Santa Cruz Coast Athletic League record of 1-11 with their only win coming against Saint Francis of Watsonville. The boys played hard led by team captains Desmond Balco and Kyle Fletcher. Balco led the team in scoring averaging 12 points a game followed by Jack Pasquini who averaged 9. Scotts Valley (7-17 overall) received a No. 14 seed in D-IV playoffs for the Central Coast Section, and will play No. 11 Marina (13-11) on Tuesday at a time to be announced.
Girls Basketball
The Lady Falcons fared far better than their male counterparts winning their first SCCAL crown under Head Coach Jim Hart, by sweeping the league with a 12-0 record. Senior Liz Munger led the team in scoring for the second year averaging 16.9 points a game followed by fellow team captain Natalia Ebrahemian who averaged 11. The Falcons found new talented strength in three starting freshmen Tori McBride, Nadene Hart, and Angela Silver who all made a huge impact this season. Freshman Autumn Gaudice-Murphy made countless big plays for the Falcons off the bench as well. The Falcons fell in the league tournament, upset by eventual tournament champion St. Francis of Watsonville. Scotts Valley received a bye in the first round of the CCS Division IV playoffs and will play at home against Notre Dame of Belmont on Saturday Feb.26 at 8:00p.m.
Wrestling
The Scotts Valley wrestling team pulled out a tremendous attempt but finished the season as runners up to the always tough Aptos Mariners. The Falcon wrestlers found themselves out gunned in the final match where they and Aptos were both 4-0 in league, pitted in a dual meet of the undefeated local teams. Scotts Valley wrestlers, 103 pound Kevin Eddington (first place SCCAL tourney, #11 seed in CCS), Chris Youmans 145 pound (second place SCCAL, #14 seed in CCS), 152 pound David Nice (second in SCCAL tourney #13 seed in CCS) and 215 pound Drake Smith (first place SCCAL, #5 seed in CCS) will be wrestling in the CCS tournament on Friday and Saturday Feb.25-26 at Oak Grove High School.
Boys Soccer
The Falcons finished 4-7-1 in SCCAL play and 7-9-3 overall. The leading scorer for the Falcons was Nick Martin who also led the team in assists with four goals and four assists. Tyler Edwards, Steven Doub, and Nick Martin, made the All SCCAL first team and sophomore Brenny Hillan was named Goalkeeper of the Year.
Girls Soccer
Again the Lady Falcons shone as league champions, marching their way through league under the tutelage of veteran Head Coach Art Munoz (Munoz was voted Coach of the Year by the all SCCAL committee this season). The Scotts Valley girls finished league play with a 10-1-1 league record and a 13-4-2 overall record, securing a number one seeding in the Central Coast Division IV championships. Led by Captains Aly Bothman, (SCCAL player of the year) Jordan Carlson (SCCAL 1st team all league), Emily Payne (1st team), Madison Black (1st team), Kalynn Morano (1st team) and Taylor Rohde (1st team), the Falcons truly have had an amazing season. Sophomore goal keeper Emily Johnson was voted Co-goalie of the year for the second time along with Santa Cruz goalie Stephanie Busch. Johnson and the Falcon defense kept opponents scoreless an impressive 14 times. The Falcons earned a first round bye in the playoffs and will play Saturday against the winner of the Valley Christian / Menlo game
