Members of the Scotts Valley High wrestling team earned respectable finishes at two recent tournaments and won a match this week to open the Santa Cruz Coast Athletic League season.
The Falcons won their first league match Tuesday, Jan. 8, defeating Harbor High School 54-15.
Scotts Valley won seven matches by forfeit.
Kevin Eddington pinned his opponent, J.J. Mazon, in the second period at 126 pounds, and Baldan Dashiev (182 pounds) and Christian Rebotarro (220 pounds) both fell to their Harbor opponents.
On Jan. 5, the girls wrestling team placed third at the Queen of the Mat Invitational at Pittsburg High School in Pittsburg.
Dominique Parrish, wrestling at 118 pounds for the Falcons, placed first in her weight class at the invitational. She won the final 5-4 against Gabrielle Eslinger, who finished fourth in the state in 2012.
Shelby Baker placed second at 122 pounds.
Addy Johnson, who executed a 38-second pin during the tournament, took fourth at 108 pounds. Teammates Abi Lopez, Alicia Pitts and Katherine Rossiter did not place.
Several Falcons also fared well at the Mat Classic at Granada High School on Jan. 5.
Grant Margerum, wrestling at 132 pounds, finished seventh with a 4-1 record, and Dashiev went 4-2 and took fourth while wrestling at 182 pounds.
Scotts Valley is back on the mat in league action at 3:30 p.m. Tuesday, Jan. 15, at San Lorenzo Valley High.
