Three teams, composed of youth from Scotts Valley and the San Lorenzo Valley recently participated in the California Youth Soccer Association (CYSA) District Cup tournament in Morgan Hill.
The SV/SLV Pride 05G girls’ team took first place in the U9 (under 9) girls’ Copper Division.
Guided by coaches Dave Okrant and Neil Challenor, they went 4-0, outscoring their opponents 14-2.
They were led by the stellar goalkeeping of Reagan Lockwood and top goal scorer Lauren Bariteau.
Other members of the team include: Isabella Alvarez, Cynthia Ball, Paige Bariteau, Lola Challenor, Morgan Dilworth, Grace Emanuelson, Taylor Ezgar, Reese Gonzalez, Hanna Karam, Megan Lussier, and Maya McGivney.
The SV/SLV Pride 03G girls’ team won the U11 (under 11) Bronze/Copper division, going undefeated without conceding a goal. The girls, all under the age of 11, won their final against the Alum Rock Earthquakes in overtime penalty kicks.
The squad, led by coaches Neil Challenor and Dean Akemann, consists of Zoe Akemann, Nichole Amadia, Emily Anderson, Brylie Beddell, Elizabeth Brennan, Gwenyth Challenor, Helena Davidson, Bailey Matlock, Zoey Riddle, Marisol Stone, Eliana Streller, Joya Strubing, and Alexis Trefethen.
On the boys’ side, the SV/SLV Clash, competing in the U11 (under 11) Bronze/Copper Division, went undefeated and won the final in overtime penalty kicks.
The boys were led by coaches Megan Kueny and Greg Neal.
