The Saturday morning weather could not have been better for the hundreds of competitors who dared to undertake the Baymonte Christian Schools second annual Tech-Trek 5-kilometer race and 1-kilometer kids fun run.
The field, which included 247 runners in the 5-kilometer run, tried their mettle against a relatively straight course down Navarra Road to Green Hills Road and back again. About a dozen runners from the University of California, at Santa Cruz cross country club took part in the race and took home medals in the teen and 20’s categories.
The overall winner was Steve Perry of Santa Cruz who finished the race in 16 minutes, 46 seconds. He was followed by James Cahill of Santa Cruz (17:38) and Charles Quan of Santa Cruz in 18:06.
In the women’s division Rosie Casarez of Santa Cruz (21:05), Diana Martinez of Santa Cruz (21:15), and Emily Neuman of Santa Cruz finished in 22:19.
The top Baymonte runner was 10-year-old Jamesley Giblin followed by Joshua Hollingsworth in 22:27.
There were 85 kids who challenged themselves to the 1-kilometer fun run that included two laps around the Baymonte track. The winners were: Daniel Nava (4:24), Chase Lariviere (4:40), Evan Atchley (4:44) and Jonathan Nava (4:44) for the boys and Alexis Trefethen (4:44), Ellie Dorado (4:46) and Alexis Giblin (4:49) for the girls.
