Santa Cruz County Animal Services has special low prices on the adoptions of more than 200 cats and kittens that need new homes.
During August, the adoption cost for an adult cat will be reduced from $100 to $80. Kittens will remain at $120, although locals who adopt two cats or kittens will get the second feline for half price.
“We want people to consider adopting a cat from one of our two animal shelters in Santa Cruz County, instead of a ‘free’ kitten from a neighbor or friend,” says Allison Lozoya, a supervisor at the shelter
She explains that the cost of adopting a cat from the animal shelter covers spaying or neutering, a microchip, a collar plus ID, all vaccinations the cat needs and a carrier to take the animal home in.
Santa Cruz County Animal Services runs two animal shelters, one in Watsonville at 580 Airport Blvd., and the other in Santa Cruz at 2200 Seventh Ave.
The shelters are open from 9 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. Monday through Saturday. The Watsonville shelter is closed from noon to 1 p.m., and the Santa Cruz shelter is shuttered from 1 to 2 p.m.
