Bethany University catcher Danielle Gomez was named the California Pacific Conference softball Player of the Week for the week of April 19.  
Gomez, a native of Oakley, went 7-for-8 at the plate with an RBI and a run scored, leading the Bruins to a 2-0 record.
Bethany swept its California Pacific Conference doubleheader with Menlo College in Scotts Valley on Saturday, April 24. 
The Bruins completed the season with a record of 8-29 and a 3-13 conference record, finishing fourth in the California Pacific Conference standings.
Scotts Valley baseball shuts down Aptos
Scotts Valley High right-hander Shane Carle tossed a one-hitter as the Falcons dismantled Aptos High, 9-0, on Wednesday, April 28, to give Scotts Valley sole possession of the Santa Cruz Coast Athletic League lead.
The Falcons are 14-6 overall, including 6-1 in the SCCAL. Their only loss was to Aptos in mid-March. The Mariners are now 6-2 in league.
Gymnasts capture medals
Seven members of Scotts Valley’s Vargas Academy of Gymnastic Arts took home medals from the Northern California Tumbling & Trampoline State Championship in Livermore last weekend.
The team won 21 medals, including 17 gold.
Gymnasts who competed in double mini-trampoline, trampoline and power tumbling were Jennifer Wickett, Pailin Demeo, Henry Campion, Connel Wilson, Mark Weitzel, Alec Scott and Buddy Takemoto.
“I was very proud of my team,” gym owner Vern Vargas said. “I was pleased to see the amazing talent of my athletes competing at states.”
The gymnasts qualified for the national Tumbling and Trampoline Championship in Virginia Beach, Va., in June.
