EDITOR,
Steve Peters, after many years as the president of Santa Cruz Pony, Colt, and Palomino at Harvey West Park is retiring. These three baseball rec leagues cover players ages 13 to 19 years old throughout our county after the high school seasons are over.
Starting in late May, into August, Steve has done all player and coaching procurement, stocking and cooking of foods in our snack bars, maintaining of the fields, scheduling umpires, scheduling games, scheduling the all-star games that draw teams from far away as Carmel, Salinas, and San Jose, to buying uniforms, and paying all the bills that accumulate. Steve even has time to coach our Santa Cruz Seals 16- to 19-year-old baseball team for numerous years.
This amazing man has always done all the feats while never being paid. Hats off to this remarkable man, whose thoughts have always been “just helping the kids!”
Dave McCavitt, Santa Cruz
