Scotts Valley Unified School District President Michael Shulman led all 10 candidates on the school trustee ballot on Tuesday, re-elected to a third four-year term.

Three newly elected members of the Scotts Valley Unified School District Board of Trustees were sworn in this week, and as a first order business re-elected Michael Shulman as board president.
Shulman was the top vote-getter among all school board candidates, and was re-elected to a third four-year term. He had been elected president earlier this year.
Shulman is a former Scotts Valley city council member, elected to one four-year term in 1992. He served one term, including a stint at mayor in 1995, and did not see re-election.
The Scotts Valley school board’s other returning member, engineer Kim Shultz, was elected to his first four-year term in November. He had been appointed to a vacant seat in 2013.
The Nov. 8 election saw the defeat of 12-year incumbent Sue Roth, losing her seat to newcomer Sue Rains, an accountant.
Rains, Shultz and Shulman are the four-year trustees.
The two new members elected to two-year terms are Roger Snyder, a project manager, and Corey Warner, a project manager. Both have children in the district: Snyder with middle and high school students and Warner with elementary students.
In other elections at the school board meeting on Dec. 13, the board elected members to the following assignments:
Vice President:  Roger Snyder
Clerk:  Kim Schultz
Board President Committees:
Scotts Valley City-Schools Committee: Michael Shulman and Corey Warner; Alternate, Sue Rains
Scotts Valley Education Foundation: Roger Snyder; Alternate, Sue Rains
Santa Cruz County School Boards Association: Kim Schultz; Alternate, Michael Shulman
Shulman had chaired a school bond measure campaign that narrowly failed in June 2008, and was elected to the school board the following November. He is also a former city planning commissioner.
