San Lorenzo Valley High School freshman Daniel Rinkert took second in the Santa Cruz Coast Athletic League singles final and a duo of Jack Beyke and Greg Beans took second in doubles this week.
The finals took place Wednesday, April 23 after qualifying rounds the day before at Seascape Sports Club in Aptos.
After a first round bye, Rinkert defeated Carl Thigpen of Santa Cruz in the semifinal, 6-2, 7-5, before succumbing in the finals to Renato Pesce of Santa Cruz 6-0, 6-1 in the final.
Beyke and Beans defeated Brendan Beitrich and Cooper Smith of SLV 6-1, 6-0 in the first round, and then topped Jacob Blair and Eli Dennis of Aptos 6-3, 6-2 in the semifinal before falling 7-5, 6-2 to Will Tierney and Ben Bacher of Santa Cruz in the final.
Tierney and Bacher had defeated SLV’s Marty Varner and Casey Bailey who had advanced to the semis with a 6-2, 2-6, 6-3 win over Al Weigel and Inmo Kang of Santa Cruz.
