
The San Lorenzo Valley softball team got off to a hot start in Santa Cruz Coast Athletic League play after a crushing 19-2 win over Harbor in last week’s league opener on the road.
Audrey Jouglet, Elie Colby and Skylar Cloyd each recorded three base hits for the Cougars, who exploded for 10 runs in the first inning. Jouglet finished with two RBIs and scored a pair of runs, while Colby added two runs and drove in one. Cloyd had two RBIs and one stolen base.
Grace Purtscher had two hits, including one double, two RBIs and scored three runs. In the circle, she tallied four strikeouts in two innings pitched. Bailey Filice, Savanna Robertson and Ida Robertello each had two base hits for SLV.
However, the Cougars had their flame extinguished following a 15-2 loss in six innings to Soquel in SCCAL play Tuesday.
SLV (4-4-1, 1-1) will host Scotts Valley (2-4-1, 2-0) in SCCAL play Thursday at 4:30pm.

Junior Natalie Murray-Skalland recorded one home run and two RBIs for the Falcons, while teammate junior Chloe Kent had one double and a pair of RBIs. Junior Lorelei Warner, freshman Stella Van Every and junior Taylor Ericson each finished with two base hits.
Warner also scored three runs while striking out four in the circle in two innings pitched. Jazzy Phillips and Kent combined for five strikeouts in the circle for the Falcons.
Scotts Valley (2-4-1, 2-0) plays at SLV (4-4-1, 1-1) in SCCAL play on Thursday at 4:30pm.
High school baseball
SLV remains winless at 0-10: SLV continues to plummet this season following a 20-0 loss to Soquel in SCCAL play Tuesday.
Senior Peter Boyd recorded the Cougars’ lone hit of the afternoon, while teammate Sean Johnson allowed 10 runs on 10 hits in four innings pitched.
The Cougars came close to picking up their first win but they were edged by Franklin of Stockton, 5-4, in nonleague play March 21. Brody Egnar had two hits and scored one run for the Cougars, while teammate Sean Johnson had one hit and scored one run.
Boyd had one hit and one RBI for SLV (0-10), which plays at Scotts Valley (2-6, 0-1) on Friday at 4pm.
SV snaps four game losing streak: Scotts Valley scored in all but one inning en route to a dominating 22-10 win against Santa Cruz in SCCAL play Tuesday.
Junior Nick Acton recorded a pair of base hits, including one home run, six RBIs and one run scored for the Falcons. Teammate junior Rex Thompson had three hits, including one home run, four RBIs and scored three runs, while junior Monte Jordan had one double, four RBIs and scored a pair of runs.
Scotts Valley (3-6, 1-1) will host SLV on Friday at 4pm.
Boys golf
SLV suffers second loss in SCCAL play: Tanner Brewer shot a team-best 39, but it wasn’t enough as SLV fell to Aptos, 218-229, in SCCAL play on the front nine holes at Seascape Golf Club on Tuesday.
Teammate Garret Dahlen shot a 41, followed by Lochlin Bischofberger (46), Carson Chubb (50) and Issac Skinner (53).
Brewer earned medalist honors after he shot a 33, helping the Cougars push past Harbor, 182-188, in SCCAL action at Boulder Creek Country Club on March 19.
Dahlen shot a 35, followed by Bischofberger (37), Skinner (38), Kruz Gerig (39) in his very first varsity match and Chubb (40).
SLV (3-2) hosts Soquel in SCCAL play at Boulder Creek Country Club on Thursday at 3:30pm.
Boys tennis
SLV drops second straight match: SLV extended its losing streak to two after being swept by Santa Cruz in SCCAL play Tuesday.
The Cougars swept all three of its doubles matches but still fell short to Harbor, 4-3, in SCCAL play on March 19.
In doubles action, Cougar duo Sayer Amos and Colton Ryssemus defeated Cameron Carlock and Damian Alvarez in straight sets 6-2, 6-2 at No. 1. Finn O’Brien and Eli Rogerson won in their No. 2 doubles match, beating Harbor’s Javi Morales and Mason Ruiz in straight sets 6-0, 6-2.
SLV’s Oscar Schipper and Ryder Angiolini defeated Otis Stumbaush and Sterling Bucci at No. 3. The Cougars (1-2) play at Soquel on Thursday at 4pm.
SV earns first win of the season: Scotts Valley bounced into the win column for the first time this season following a dominating 6-1 victory over Harbor in SCCAL play Tuesday.
Raphael Bouchet won his No. 1 singles match for the Falcons by beating Abe Bachar in straight sets 6-0, 6-0, while teammates Colin Johnston and Simon Papadopoulos each won at No. 3 and No. 4, respectively.
In doubles action, Scotts Valley duo Nate Wexler and Sam Galli defeated Jasper Cattaert and Damian Alvarez in straight sets 6-1, 6-1 at No. 1. Jason Krok and Freddy Padilla won at No. 2 doubles, while teammates Gary Kuriakose and Aidan Verhulp won at No. 3 for Scotts Valley.
Scotts Valley (1-5, 1-1) plays at Aptos on Thursday at 4pm.
Boys volleyball
Cougars topple Falcons in battle of the Valleys: SLV senior middle blocker Xavier Knight recorded a game-best 19 kills to go along with three service aces in the Cougars’ 3-1 win against Scotts Valley in SCCAL play Monday evening.
Teammate sophomore setter Finn Nelson finished with 39 assists and five aces for SLV, which improved to 2-3 in league play this season.
Senior outside hitter Will Shanks had four kills, 11 digs, one block and a pair of service aces for Scotts Valley, which dropped to 1-3 in SCCAL play. Teammate senior setter Troy Thompson had seven kills, three digs, two blocks and one ace, while freshman Leo Hashiguichi-Rosoff contributed a team-best 14 kills to go along with two digs, two blocks and one ace.
Scotts Valley junior Ben Luckey had three kills, four digs and a pair of blocks in a 3-0 loss to Mount Madonna in SCCAL play Tuesday. Hashiguichi-Rosoff added 10 assists, four digs and one block for the Falcons, who will compete in the Harbor Surf City Invitational on Friday.
Scotts Valley (3-11, 1-3) will host Soquel in SCCAL play March 31 at 6:30pm SLV (5-7, 2-3) plays at Soquel in league play April 2 at 6pm.
