The San Lorenzo Valley High School Theatre Department is gearing up for its production of “The Lady Vanishes,” a comedy thriller adapted by Derek Webb from Ethel Lina White’s novel, which inspired Alfred Hitchcock’s 1938 classic film.

The show is directed by SLV High School seniors Jaden Lopez and Monty Borthwick and will run from Oct. 4 through Oct. 13 at the SLV Performing Arts Center, 7105 Highway 9, in Felton.

Set in the 1930s, “The Lady Vanishes” follows wealthy American Iris Carr, who faints from sunstroke while waiting to board a train bound for the United Kingdom. After befriending an eccentric elderly woman named Miss Froy on the train, Iris is alarmed when she wakes up from a nap to discover that Miss Froy has vanished—and that none of the other passengers recall ever seeing her. Joined by Max Hare and the Professor, Iris embarks on a suspenseful search to uncover the truth, but with every passing moment, even her allies begin to question whether Miss Froy existed at all.

Both Lopez and Borthwick bring extensive experience to the production.

Lopez has been involved with SLV Theatre since her freshman year, working on productions such as “The End of the World (With Prom to Follow),” “Little Shop of Horrors” and “Disney’s Beauty and the Beast.” Borthwick has also been active in the theater program, participating in roles both on stage and behind the scenes, including work on “The Comedy of Terrible Errors” and “Legally Blonde The Musical.”

Performances of “The Lady Vanishes” will be held Fridays and Saturdays at 7pm, with Sunday matinees at 2pm. A special Community Night performance is scheduled for Thursday, Oct. 10, with all tickets priced at $10. General admission tickets are $12, with discounted rates of $10 for students, seniors and SLV staff.

Advance ticket purchases are strongly encouraged, with a limited number available at the door starting one hour before each show. Tickets can be bought online through the SLV Theatre Boosters webpage via tinyurl.com/5ee9hsax.
