The San Lorenzo Valley Water District Board of Directors agreed March 3 to oversee the repair of the water main along Lake Boulevard in Lompico.
Lompico County Water District approached the larger water district several weeks ago about managing a $50,000 repair to a looping pipeline along Lake Boulevard that was damaged in 2006 when the road washed out.
At that time, the loop was broken and both ends were capped. Residents have since said that the change caused an incorrect flow, resulting in no chlorine reaching the end of the water lines on Lake Boulevard.
The Federal Emergency Management Agency agreed to reimburse Lompico for the repair; however, the district has not had the cash on hand to pay for the work because of personnel costs that drained all reserves. The district fired its longtime general manager and has been able to start saving money for projects
San Lorenzo Valley’s board agreed last week to front $30,000 for the repair. Lompico will pay for the balance, about $20,000, from its reserves, and both agencies will be reimbursed by FEMA after work is completed.
Lompico’s board set a special meeting for Wednesday, March 9, after press time, to discuss and perhaps vote on the agreement.
