On Tuesday, February 24, at the Boulder Creek Golf and Country Club, Mark Mercer, Athletic Director at San Lorenzo Valley High School and Head Golf Coach, made his first ever hole-in-one.
At the fifth hole, Mercer was at 157 yards and used a No. 9 iron to make his hole-in-one stroke.
“This is Mark’s first ever hole-in-one – besides being understandably excited – it was very important for so many to have witnessed the feat,” said Jerry Thormann, P.G.A. Volunteer Assistant Coach. “Four players that had just finished playing the hole, plus the four players that were on the green that “waved up” coach Mercer’s group of four, as well as two assistant coaches, making a total of fourteen witnesses,” that saw the hole-in-one.
“It is important for good, positive (as Cougars, we tend to say “Pawsitive”) things like this to be seen and demonstrated to our golf team players,” said Thormann. “We are glad that so many were able to share in this special moment.”
