Heavy smoke from controlled burns at Wilder Ranch State Park drifted through Scotts Valley today, causing residents to wonder if there was a large fire in the are.
However, there was no cause for alarm as parks crews at Wilder Ranch State Park began a series of “vegetation management burns” on Monday that will continue for two weeks.
Buring will take place on various days depending on weather conditions, available resources and local fire activity.
Some trails in the park may be closed briefly during the burns.
Officials said that controlled burns are one of the tools used to help maintain habitats and reduce of fire hazards.
