Traffic on state Highway 9, north of Boulder Creek, in Santa Cruz County, was reopened to one-way traffic on July 4 after the highway was briefly closed because of a traffic collision that set a power pole ablaze, causing a nearby power outage for hundreds of PG&E customers.

The solo-vehicle collision was reported by the California Highway Patrol at about 12:45 p.m., near Fern Drive.

The driver suffered minor injuries, according to CHP spokesperson Officer Israel Murillo. The cause was under investigation.

Firefighters from the Boulder Creek Fire Fire Protection District extinguished the fire.

The highway was reopened with one-way traffic controls at about 2:45 p.m., Murillo said.

A PG&E spokesperson confirmed the cause of the outage was the vehicle into the power pole. There were about 140 customers without power as of 4 p.m., down from about 650 customers who were initially impacted.
