An Orthodox funeral service was held June 11 at Sts. Peter and Paul Antiochian Orthodox Church in Ben Lomond for Solomon Johnson, who died of unknown causes June 4 in Oakland. He was 33. Burial was in Felton Cemetery.
Mr. Johnson spent his early years in Nevada, California and Connecticut. He completed independent studies through Fort Bragg High School in Fort Bragg and White Oak High School in Ben Lomond in the early 1990s. He then attended Laney College in Oakland, where he studied art, computers and math. He also learned to drive tractor-trailer vehicles in Texas and for a short time enjoyed life on the road.
He was a lifelong member of Sts. Peter and Paul in Ben Lomond.
Family remembers Mr. Johnson for his bear hugs; artistic talent; mechanical curiosity; sense of humor; kindness; good looks; and being a protective big brother. Pencil on paper was his favorite artistic medium, and he often drew extremely detailed dragons with cryptic messages included in the lines of the drawings.
Mr. Johnson is survived by his wife, Christine Jewett, and daughter, Verity, of Novato; mother, Sherri Putnam of Texas; father and mother, John R. and Darlene Sue Johnson of Felton; siblings, Mariah Johnson of Alameda, Cicily Oakes of Santa Cruz, Anna Marie Joudy, Sophia Johnson, Alexander Johnson, Shane Jeremiah Johnson and Fiona Johnson, all of Felton, and Caitlin Nagle of Killeen, Texas; and many other relatives, including his godsisters, grandparents, aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces and nephews.
Contributions in Mr. Johnson’s name may be sent to Sts. Peter and Paul Antiochian Orthodox Church, 9980 Highway 9, Ben Lomond, CA 95005.
