Rehearsing for Rio

The Scotts Valley High School Chorus has been invited by The Surf City Kiwanis Concert Committee to participate in their December 13 concert event at the Rio Theatre in Santa Cruz. They are featured in “A Patsy Cline Christmas” with singer Joni Morris, “a nationally touring artist specializing in country and gospel music.” The After Midnight Band will be accompanying them.
The chorus has been asked to participate because they have performed at the Kiwanis of the Valley Club’s holiday luncheon in the past. Kiwanis also want to help the ScottsValleyHigh School music program with this fundraising event.
The chorus, directed by Beth Hollenbeck, has 18 students and it is made up evenly between the voices of tenor, bass, alto and soprano. Almost all the boys are in their senior year and the girls are a mix of all grade levels. A number of these students were in the middle school choir and continued their interest into high school.
Jeannene Rawlsky of Surf City Kiwanis says, “The choir is a great bonding opportunity and by the end of the year they celebrate their many achievements and become their own community group through their experiences.”
The concert is at 2:00 p.m. at the Rio Theatre, 1205 Soquel Avenue, Santa Cruz. Tickets are $39.00 and can be purchased Monday through Saturday 11:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. at TomBoy, next to the Rio Theatre.
