Bocce tournament on tap
The Falcon Club will host its first annual bocce tournament at noon October 1 at the Sky Park bocce courts. Teams of six paid $200 which included lunch and entry into the “closest to the pallino” and “longest lob” competitions.
The teams playing are: The Scotts Valley City Council, Scotts Valley School Board, Scotts Valley Chamber of Commerce, Scotts Valley fire fighters and fire board, Santa Cruz County School Board, Steve Bogner Heating, Santa Cruz County Bank’s Scotts Valley branch and Wells Fargo Bank’s Scotts Valley branch. Games will be refereed by Steve Horlock, Rudy Cabidas and Tammy Blanchard.
Girls water polo heats up
SLV has improved to 8-0 in league play after a 16-7 home pool win over San Benito High on Sept. 20 in a Tri County Athletic League Mountain Division win. Marissa Petras led the Cougars with five goals followed by Haley Smith with four and Cammy Kellogg with three. The Cougars also won the prestigious Wilcox Invitational tournament over the weekend, where Petras was voted the tournament MVP.
Scotts Valley won their TCAL Valley League matchup against Christopher High 15-8 at the SLV pool on Sept. 15. Falcon captain Aria Leonard led the Falcons with seven goals followed by Meridith Barton with three and Julia Pini with two.
Girls Volleyball
SLV (3-5, 1-2 SCCAL) defeated St. Francis at home 25-23, 25-16, 25-19 in an SCCAL match-up on Sept. 20. The Cougars were led by Michelle Hitt with 12 kills, while setter Kaitlyn Lotz added 25 assists.
Falcons top SLV tennis
Scotts Valley High School capitalized on three San Lorenzo Valley High School defaults to sweep the match against cross town rival SLV 7-0 in league play on Sept. 20.
Scotts Valley’s No.1 singles player Danica Houseman won handily with a 6-1, 6-2 victory over SLV’s Angie Herschberger.
Falcons No. 2 singles Serena Strehlke won over SLVs Sabrina Skarek 6-3, 6-0.
