SLV polo romps
Cami Kellog scored a game-high eight goals for San Lorenzo Valley (15-1 overall, 8-1 SCCAL), as the Cougars crushed Santa Cruz 18-5 in a TCAL Mountain Division game.
Teammates Marissa Petras scored 5, Haley Smith 3, and Sarah Sergeant 2 to round out the scoring. Goalkeeper Taylor Friend had six saves. SLV played against Salinas at Hartnell College on Oct. 5 after press time and will host Carmel on Friday, Oct. 7 at 4:30 p.m.
Two hole in ones on same day
Scotts Valley resident Jeff Kreer, 43, drilled a hole in one at the Valley Gardens Golf Course on the 110-yard third hole using his 9-iron. After 15 years golfing, it was Kreer’s first ace. The shot was witnessed by Javier Nungaray and Terry Deming on Oct. 1.
Skye Leona of Los Gatos scored an ace on the 113-yard ninth hole with a 5-6 iron hybrid club, also on Oct. 1. The 60-year-old has been playing golf for 5 years and it was her first hole-in-one. Leona’s shot was witnessed by Mary Quinn and Sharron Barrett.
Scotts Valley girls tennis
The Falcons (6-1) retained sole possession of second place in the Santa Cruz Coast Athletic League by defeating Saint Francis High School in Watsonville. The Falcon’s doubles team that includes Suzie Jacobs and Nicole Laporte swept the Sharks in straight sets 6-1, 6-2 on Oct. 4. St. Francis freshman Caroline Casper remained undefeated on the season by besting Scotts Valley’s No. 1 singles player Zoe Pelletier 6-0, 6-0. The Falcons play next on Thursday after press time against Soquel an then will play next Thursday, Oct.13 against San Lorenzo Valley at Scotts Valley High.
College recruiting clinic
Cathi Aradi who authored the book “Preparing to Play Softball at the Collegiate Level” will host an informational clinic at the San Lorenzo Valley High School Multi-Purpose room from 1 to 4 p.m. Sunday, Nov. 13. Attendees can sit down with an expert and spend 2 to three hours talking about the recruiting process (at all levels) and the ways athletes can increase their chances to play after high school.
The clinic will be geared towards high school and soon to be high school aged players and their parents. The clinic is $15 or $30 per family at the door.
