Local student shows well in Jiu Jitsu
Jake Curtis, a junior at San Lorenzo Valley High School, took first place in the juvenile medium-heavy class of the Brazilian Jiu Jitsu U.S. Open last weekend.
The event was held at the San Jose State event center on Oct. 15.
Curtis used a technical winning move called the Omo Plata to take down his final opponent. He is a student of Gustavo Froes, a 4th degree black belt and three-time Black Belt Challenge Champion. Curtis attends Froes’ Jiu Jitsu classes in Scotts Valley at the Crossfit Maxim Gym.
SV baseball coach step down
After three years at the helm of the Scotts Valley High School varsity baseball program, Buddy Carrigan has resigned his post. Scotts Valley High School has begun accepting applications immediately and hope to fill the vacancy by November. Carrigan led the Falcons to back to back Santa Cruz Coast Athletic League titles in 2009 and 2010.
SLV little league registration begins
Online registration for the Spring 2012 Little League season began Oct. 6 and will run through Jan. 8, 2012. Early bird pricing, through Dec. 14 is $130 per player with discounts for additional children. Pricing will go up by $20 after that date.
Those who are new to SLV Little League must provide a copy of each child’s birth certificate.
