Cougars drop Scotts Valley in rematch
San Lorenzo Valley (15-11 overall, 8-3 in league) avenged a 9-0 loss earlier this season to Scotts Valley (15-9, 7-4), with a 4-2 victory over their Falcon hosts. The win broke the tie for third place in the Santa Cruz Coast Athletic League, as both teams trailed Aptos and Soquel with identical records. Kendra Salangsang pitched seven innings for the Cougars and allowed one earned run, seven hits and two walks with five strikeouts.
At the plate Salangsang drove in one run, Hyllery Hershberger doubled with an RBI. Scotts Valley’s Nicole Whitney led the Falcons at the plate going 2-for-3 and scoring a run.
SLV hosted Harbor on Thursday after press-time and Scotts Valley played league-leading Aptos at the same time.
Scotts Valley takes on Los Gatos bocce
For the fifth consecutive year, a team of Scotts Valley bocce ball players will take on their counterparts from Los Gatos as part of the Over the Hill Tournament.
Scotts Valley is 0-4 versus their counterparts and a team of Al Tellez, Vince Knosse, Dave Imwald and Paul Chapin will battle Los Gatos’ best.
The public is invited to view the best of 5 match from noon to 4 p.m. at Skypark, 370 Kings Village Road in Scotts Valley.
Ladies golf club openings
The Valley Gardens Ladies Golf club seeks new members. The club, for women 18-an-up meets on Monday mornings (8:30 a.m. during the summer, and 9 a.m. during winter) to play 9 holes of golf at Valley Gardens Golf Course, 263 Mount Hermon Road in Scotts Valley.
Players of all levels are welcome. The club also has lunches, tournaments and holiday celebrations.

Bethany softball player honored
Bethany University’s Heather Hunt, a junior from Garden Grove and outfielder on the Bruins softball team made the California Pacific All-Conference team.
Levy leads Falcons over Harbor
Brett Levy hit a home run for the Falcons and pitched the complete game, earning the win as Scotts Valley (14-12-1overall, 6-5 SCCAL) beat Harbor High 4-2 on May 10. Levy struck out nine and walked one while smashing a two-run round trip in the first inning.
Teammate Abe Alvarez went 2-4 at the plate and stole a base as the Falcons moved into third place in league. Scotts Valley will wrap up the regular season at home against Soquel at 4 p.m. on Friday, May 13.
