Little League sign-ups extended, tryouts scheduled
SLV Little League has extended the early-bird pricing through Wednesday, Jan. 11.
Residents can sign up online at www.slvlittleleague.org.
Tryouts will take place from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 14, Jan. 21 with a January 28 make-up day if rain has cancelled previous tryouts.
They will take place at the San Lorenzo Valley High School Majors field, 7105 Highway 9 in Felton. Tryouts are for players age 7 and up. All players must tryout at least once.

Scotts Valley girls soccer enters league
The Scotts Valley girl’s soccer team is 3-3-2 after completing a challenging preseason schedule. The team is led by Madison Black with four goals and Taylor Rohde with three assists.
Goalkeeper Emily Johnson has made 37 saves while allowing six goals for the defending Santa Cruz Coast Athletic League Champions. The team opened SCCAL play against San Lorenzo Valley High School, the results of which were not available by press time Thursday, Jan. 5.
Pride U14 finishes stellar season
The under-14 Pride Red girls soccer team recently finished their club season with a 10-1-1 record, winning the copper division in the U14 age group.
The team plays for the SV/SLV Soccer Club, and is made up of players from both San Lorenzo Valley and Scotts Valley. Pride players anchor their respective school teams.
Falcon boys hoops on a roll
The Scotts Valleys boys basketball team has won four of their last five games under new head coach Charles Burks. The team is 7-5 heading into Santa Cruz Coast Athletic League play.
The Falcons defeated Gonzales High (49-38), Del Mar (42-33), Soledad (45-27), and North Monterey County High (51-41).
Their only loss in the last five games came at the hands of area powerhouse Salinas High who edged the Falcons out in the opening round of the Condor Christmas Classic at North Monterey High beating the Falcons 65-44.
