Middle school takes home soccer titles
The Scotts Valley Middle School 6th and 7th grade team finished the season 9-1-1 behind a strong defense made up of Claire Hartman, Taylor Giniski, Olivia Ross, and goalie Devin Derecho (all 6th graders). The team allowed eight goals all season.
Midfielders and forwards, Annie O’Hare, Annie Hart, Eliza Barton, Meliese Menchaca, and center mids, Sjea Anderson and Kaylee Craft all kept the ball moving forward.
Scoring 39 goals from all over the field were Linnea Byrd, Marissa Espinola, Sarah Johnson, Makaila Pryor, Emma Turner and Makenzie Wessell.
The 8th grade girls’ team shut out all but one of their opponents going undefeated on the season. Goalies Grace Gigiuere and Sunn Popovich along with the solid defensive of Megan Lonhart, Mary Claire Lonhart, Kira Petersen, Katelyn McNulty, Desi Rakela and Madeline Hitzeman made the Dolphins unbeatable. Holding down the middle, playing effectively both offensively and defensively, Allie Carl, Anna Payne, Maddy Barton, and Trysha Arthur contributed many goals to the Dolphin victories.
On offense, Brittany Cartee, Audrey Liebenberg, Mikaela Inman and Meredith Sanderson punched in many points for the team.
