SLV upsets Harbor soccer
San Lorenzo Valley High School boys soccer team upset Harbor High’s undefeated season with a 1-0 victory at Harbor on Jan. 27. Erik Rivas’ goal in the 76th minute of regulation lifted the Cougars past the previously undefeated Pirates. The Cougars (2-4-1 in SCCAL play and 3-9-3 overall) play next at 3:30 p.m. Friday, Feb.3 against Soquel (4-2-1 SCCAL, 5-7-1 overall).
Scotts Valley shuts out Sharks
The Scotts Valley boy’s soccer team defeated the St. Francis Sharks 4-0 Friday Jan. 27 at Scotts Valley High. Matt Seligman scored the team’s first goal on a header in the 10th minute off an assist from Dylan Kuo. Alec Paul scored in the 39th minute on an assist from Noah Carl. The score at halftime was 2-0.
Charlie Stock scored on a shot from 25 yards out with another assist by Carl. The final goal of the game was scored by Noah Beito in the 72nd minute off of a corner kick by Cameron Hart.
Brenny Hillan had two saves in the win. The Falcons are 4-3-0 in league play and 7-5-2 overall.
Felton Freeze won by Aptos man
Shasta Criss of Aptos won the men’s open division at the fourth annual Felton Freeze Ice Bowl disc golf tournament on Saturday, Feb. 25 in Felton. Touring professional Sarah Hokum took first in the women’s open division.
The tournament was held Black Mouse Disc Golf Course at San Lorenzo Valley High School. Par for two rounds on the Felton course was 114.
Criss finished the day 18-under par with a 96. Chris Edwards of Felton took second with his 16-under 98. Scotts Valley’s Jon Baldwin, who won the master’s 40-50 year-old division at last year’s world championship at DeLaveaga Park, tied for third place with Santa Cruz’s TJ Goodwin, and Rob Ryan of Berkeley who all scored 11-under 103’s.
Hokum’s even-par 114 proved just strong enough for the win as Santa Cruz’s Kristine King shot 1-over 115 for second and Faith Green of Felton scored 11-over 125 for third. Felton’s Mike Antos shot 108 for third in the advanced flight, a separate division.
Scotts Valley girls soccer remains undefeated
Scotts Valley High School girls soccer continued their rampage through league topping San Lorenzo Valley 5-0 in the final meeting of the season between the two teams. Sonja Gustafsson led the charge for the Falcons with two second half goals. Ranae Maloney, Taylor Rohde and Jessica DuBridge each scored a goal as well. Once again the Falcons defense shut out their opponent. The team has allowed just one goal through eight games of Santa Cruz Coast Athletic League play this year.
