Scotts Valley wrestlers topple Soquel
The Scotts Valley High School wrestling team earned wins in every bracket that they wrestled and gave up just one forfeit as they went on to defeat the Soquel Knights 63-6  on Feb. 8. 
At 108 pounds, Falcon Nico Ponza defeated Soquel’s Bobby Burge with a pin in the first round. At 122, Jake Revino beat Keith Wellstone by pin in the third. At 132 pounds Grant Margerum won over Will McTigh by a 2-1 decision. At 147, Doug Peyser bested Matt Hohmann with a first round pin as did teammate Andy Ramirez at 154 against Tanner Farley.  Shelby Baker, Scott Boynton, Baldan Dashiev, Daniel Garcia, and Nick Chambers all earned forfeits.
Both Scotts Valley and San Lorenzo Valley will wrestle at the Santa Cruz Coast Athletic League finals, today, Friday, Feb. 17 at Santa Cruz High School.
Valley runner headed to invitational
San Lorenzo Valley High School’s Anna Maxwell will be the only sophomore running in the two mile race at the prestigious Brooks PR Invitational Feb. 26 and 27 at Dempsey indoor track in Seattle, Wash. The race features 15 of the top two mile runners in the nation. The athletes will test their speed on one of the fastest indoor tracks in the country during the race. 
Brooks will pay for Maxwell’s airfare, lodging and meals for prestigious event.
Scotts Valley football headed for Texas
The Scotts Valley High School football team announced this week that it will travel to West Texas to play Central High of San Angelo on Sept. 7.
The team has traveled to Texas three times in the past four years to play in large high school stadiums.
It will be the second game of the season for the Falcons, who open Aug. 31 against Evergreen Valley High School in San Jose.
