Traveling team wins twice
Two Scotts Valley pitchers each pitched complete-game winners Saturday, June 18, for the Hardtke Red Sox traveling team.
Brenny Hillan pitched seven full innings with eight strikeouts in the 4-1 win over the West Valley Black Sox. Hillan had a no-hitter into the fifth inning.
Sean Varenkamp also pitched seven full innings in a 7-3 win over the South Bay Bees.
Erlin undefeated in Double-A
Scotts Valley High alumnus Robbie Erlin continues to turn heads as a pitcher in the minor leagues.
Erlin was called up to the Double-A Frisco (Texas) RoughRiders in late May and has gone undefeated since his promotion. He leads all minor-league pitchers in walks plus hits per inning (0.64) and in opponents’ batting average (.154).
He finished the previous season with the Myrtle Beach Pelicans, an Advanced Single-A team, with an earned-run average of just 2.14.
