Three girls scored in double figures as the San Lorenzo Valley girls basketball team defeated Harbor High, 51-33, on Feb. 5.
Sierra Clark led all scorers with 19 points and 16 rebounds, and Brooke Carroll added 13 points and grabbed seven rebounds. Shannon Beladi also had a strong game, scoring 10 points and recording five steals for the Cougars.
SLV is 3-8 in Santa Cruz Coast Athletic League play after falling 63-21 to powerhouse Soquel High on Feb. 9. The team played its final regular-season game after press time Thursday, Feb. 11, and it will play in the SCCAL postseason tourney next week, which begins Tuesday, Feb. 16, with date and time to be determined.
AAU hoops meeting scheduled
An informational meeting for the Amateur Athletic Union basketball teams coached by Monte Vista Christian basketball coach and Scotts Valley resident Dan Mooney are scheduled for March 20.
The meetings are at the Monte Vista Christian School gym, 2 School Way, in Watsonville.
Under-12 and -13-year-olds will meet from 8 to 9:30 a.m., under-14 and -15 will meet from 9:30 to 11 a.m. and under-16 and -17 will meet from 11 a.m. to 12:30 p.m.

SLV boys defeat Soquel on hardwood
Blake Bechtel scored 14 points and Brad Clements added 12 to lead the Cougars over Soquel High, 57-46, on Feb. 9. SLV improved to 4-7 in league and will play league-leading St. Francis after press time Thursday, Feb. 11, before entering the league tournament Monday, Feb. 16, at a site to be determined.
Bethany men fall to Menlo
Despite 24 points from senior Ron Houston, the Bethany University men’s basketball team fell to 1-8 in the California Pacific Coast Conference with a 69-67 loss to Menlo College on Feb. 6.
The Bruins have three games remaining in conference play.
The Bethany women also fell to Menlo, 64-25, and continue their winless Cal Pac season at 0-9 with three games left.
Bethany softball opens with three losses
The Bethany university women’s softball team opened the season by scoring one run in each of their first three games.
The team fell 6-1 to the University of British Columbia and to powerhouse California Baptist University, 14-1, on Feb. 4 before falling to Simpson University, 2-1, on Feb. 5.
