CCS Track and Field Finals
Thirteen athletes from San Lorenzo Valley and Scotts Valley HS made it to the Central Coast Section’s track and field finals last Friday, which were held at the San Jose City College Stadium.
Here are the results for local athletes in chronological order.
-Kaila Gibson, SLVHS senior, placed fifth in the girl’s 1600-meter run, at 4:58.98.
-SLVHS girl’s 4-x-400-meter relay, placed sixth, at 4:05.97. 1) sophomore Carolina Moreno Guzman, 2) sophomore Abbey Meck, 3) junior Cassie Ackemann and 4) senior Kaila Gibson.
– Hayley Herberg, SVHS senior, placed fifth in the girl’s 400-meter dash, at 57.25.65.
– Draven Hawk, SVHS senior, won the 800-meter run, at 1:55.87.
– Luke McCartney, SVHS junior, placed ninth in the boy’s 1600m run, at 4:23.74.
– Nick Heath, SVHS senior, placed seventh in the boy’s 3200-meter run, at 9:2.45.
– Sam Schubert, SLVHS junior, placed third in boy’s 110-meter hurdles, at 14.69.
– Cassie Ackemann, SLVHS sophomore, placed second in the girl’s high jump by clearing 5-03 on the first try, Scotts Valley’s Lexi Stevens placed fourth by clearing 5-03 on the second try, and last week’s SCCAL winner, SVHS junior Julie Zweng, placed sixth, at 5-01.
Kaila Gibson, Draven Hawk, and Cassie Ackemann made it to this weekend’s state meet in Fresno.
CCS Softball Finals
For the first time in Falcon history, the Scotts Valley HS girl’s softball team played in the Central Coast Section’s Championship at PAL Stadium in San Jose last Saturday.
Their illustrious opponents were the Spirits of Notre Dame HS in Salinas. They started the game as 15-time champions and prevailed 2-0, with no scores until the sixth-inning. Now they are 16-time champions.
Santa Cruz County Athletic League’s Pitcher of the Year Sarah Reyes, took the loss, but will continue her softball career at the collegiate level at Lewis and Clark College in Oregon.
