Traveling softball team tryouts
The Amateur Softball Association team Trouble Gold fast-pitch softball tryouts for girls 18 and younger at the Scotts Valley High School softball field Dec. 2 and Dec. 9, both Sundays.  
Tryouts for pitchers and catchers are from 9:30 to 10:30 a.m., and all other positions try out from 10:30 a.m. to noon.
The Trouble Gold plays ASA Gold-level tournaments and showcases in Irvine, Huntington Beach, Las Vegas, Reno, Sunnyvale, Lake Tahoe, Roseville and Stockton, with the goal of giving players as much exposure to college coaches as possible.

High school athletics hoops fundraiser
Santa Cruz High School will host the 57th annual Emmett Thompson Memorial Dad’s Club basketball tournament Dec. 6 to 8 at the Santa Cruz Civic Auditorium, 307 Church St., in Santa Cruz.
Teams representing high schools from throughout the Monterey Bay region — including San Lorenzo Valley and Scotts Valley high schools — will play a tournament-style schedule over the course of three days to raise money for high school athletics.
Games start at 3:30 p.m. Thursday, Dec. 6, and tickets are $8 for adults, $5 for seniors, $4 for students and $2 for children younger than 10.
