SLV runners head to Seattle
Two San Lorenzo Valley High track stars, Cody Johnson and Anna Maxwell, will head to Seattle this weekend to run in the prestigious Brooks PR Invitational.
Both SLV runners will attend the meet for free. Brooks — a running shoe company — pays the way for the top 10 or 12 runners in the nation in each race it hosts.
Johnson will race in the 800-meters and Maxwell in the 1,600-meters. Aptos
High School’s Nikki Hiltz will also attend the event and will run in the 800.
Wrestlers prep for finals
The Santa Cruz Coast Athletic League wrestling finals are Friday, Feb. 15, at San Lorenzo Valley High School.
Wrestlers from the six schools in the SCCAL will compete to qualify for the Central Coast Section tournament Feb. 22 and 23 at Independence High School in San Jose.
Warriors off for all-star break
The Santa Cruz Warriors head into the all-star break with an 18-11 record in their inaugural season.
Most recently, the NBA Development League team fell to the Idaho Stampede, 108-80, in Boise on Sunday, Feb. 10, despite 13 points from Warrior Taylor Griffin.
The team is off until Wednesday, Feb. 20, when they return home to host the Los Angeles D-Fenders in Santa Cruz. The game is at 7 p.m.
Fifteen of the Warriors’ remaining 21 games are at home.

Winning combination
Rare Parts Inc., a provider and manufacturer of rare and hard-to-find auto parts, will sponsor Felton-based Desert Dingo Racing for its 2013 season, the racing team announced this week.
Desert Dingo races a 44-year-old Volkswagen Beetle in off-road races, including the Baja 1000 in Baja, Mexico. The team took second in the Class 11 category during the Valley Off Road Racing Association 2012 season.
The 2013 season will feature the full VORRA series and the Baja 1000. Desert Dingo racing also raises money to support diabetes awareness, sponsored by the International Diabetes Federation.

Fundraising golf tournament set
A benefit golf tournament to support San Lorenzo Valley High School athletics will take place May 10 at Boulder Creek Golf Club.
Registration is $100 per person, and businesses may sponsor a tee for $125. The registration cost includes a green fee, cart, drink tickets and a tri-tip barbecue with sides and dessert.

SV girls fall to Aptos after streak
Aptos High School’s girls soccer team defeated Scotts Valley 2-0 on Tuesday, Feb. 12, in the team’s second-to-last game before the end of the regular season.
The loss snapped a three-game winning streak by the Falcons, who fell to 6-2-3 in league play, good for third in the Santa Cruz Coast Athletic League behind Santa Cruz (8-1-2) and Aptos (6-1-4).
The Falcons close the regular season after press time Thursday, Feb. 14, with a home game against St. Francis.
They will find out if they qualify for the Central Coast Section playoffs Saturday, Feb. 16, when postseason seedings are announced.
The first round will take place Tuesday, Feb. 19, or Wednesday, Feb. 20.
