Golf tournament raises $5,500 for DARE
The Scotts Valley Police Department’s 16th annual DARE golf tournament raised $5,500 for alcohol and drug abuse education. Fifty six golfers participated in the Aug. 16 tournament at Valley Garden’s Golf Course in Scotts Valley.
The low gross score team was made up of Dene Bustichi, Randy Johnson, Corrie Kates and Geo Bustichi. The low net score team included Ken Leong, Augie Zigon, Randy Rimple and Dorrie Rimple. The closest woman to the pin was won by Edie Ainsworth and closest man was Frank Hernandez. Dorrie Rimple had the longest women’s drive and Lt. John Hohmann had the longest men’s drive. Hohmann called the drive lucky, as he gets out to the golf course once or twice a year.
Runners, volunteers sought for Bean Creek run
Sign-ups are underway for the Scotts Valley’s Bean Creek Run, which is set for Sunday, Oct. 20.
The annual 5-mile run is a fundraiser for the athletic programs for Scotts Valley High School. The race begins at the Scotts Valley Community Center and finishes at Scotts Valley High School. Registration for $30 can be found at Active.com or through Scotts Valley High School. Volunteers to help with advertising, gift bags, registration and a post-race breakfast are sought, too.
