Erlin gets second MLB win
San Diego Padres lefthander Robbie Erlin earned his second major league win in a 5-1 victory over the Arizona Diamondbacks on Wednesday, Aug. 28. Erlin, a 2009 Scotts Valley High School graduate, pitched six innings, allowing six hits and one run while striking out two. On the season he has a 2-2 record with 18 strikeouts, 10 walks and a 5.97 ERA in 28 innings pitched. He has made five starts in seven overall appearances while bouncing up and down from Triple-A Tuscan this season.
SLV fall ball tryouts next weekend
A sign-up and skills evaluation for the San Lorenzo Valley Little League Fall Ball season will take place from 10 a.m. to noon Sunday, Sept. 8. The tryout will take place at the SLV High School Pony Field, 7105 Highway 9 in Felton.
Fall ball is for players ages 5 to 12 and will run Sunday afternoons from mid-September through the end of October. The league teaches fundamentals in casual and fun baseball experience.

Warriors name new coach
The Santa Cruz Warriors, the NBA Development League affiliate of the Golden State Warriors, named Casey Hill the team’s new head coach last week.
Hill, an assistant coach for the Warriors for the past two seasons, replaces Nate Bjorkgren who signed as head coach of the Iowa Energy earlier this month.
Prior to joining the Santa Cruz staff, Hill worked under his father, longtime NBA coach Bob Hill, with the Tokyo Apache, a professional team in Japan. Hill is a graduate of Trinity University, where he was a member of the Bantam’s basketball team.
