Cougar runners take title
The San Lorenzo Valley girls varsity cross country team ran the fastest of any of the 14 teams at the Stevenson Relays in Pebble Beach on Saturday, Sept. 14.
The girls team had five runners finish the course in a total time of 47 minutes, 42 seconds, the fastest time of the day among the small and large schools competing. League rival Scotts Valley took second overall, in a total time of 50:27.
In the small school varsity boys division, Scotts Valley took first in 43:23 and SLV took second in 43:52. The times were good enough for 5th and 6th overall of the 15 teams competing from around the Bay Area.
 
Scotts Valley girls take Anzar
The Scotts Valley girls volleyball team defeated Anzar High School in three games, 25-18, 25-13, and 25-18, on Thursday, Sept. 12.
Amber Bothman with 10, Seryna Tapuloa with 7, Juliana Sudfeld with 4 and Shelby Kranich with 4 led the team in kills, while Megan Lonhart had 28 assists. Tapuloa had two blocks and Sudfeld four aces for the Falcons who improved to 2-1 on the season. They open up league play against SLV on Monday, Sept. 23 in Felton. 
 
Santa Cruz Warriors open tryouts announced
The Santa Cruz Warriors will hold an open tryout Sunday, Oct. 6 at Kaiser Permanente Arena in Santa Cruz. The tryout is for anyone interested in showcasing their skills in front of Warriors coaches.
The Santa Cruz tryout will be limited to 50 participants. The cost is $100 for preregistration and $125 the day of the event. Proceeds will benefit Santa Cruz Warriors community programs.
