Both San Lorenzo Valley and Scotts Valley high schools played a number of preseason games.
Soccer
Boys: SLVHS boys are 2-2, SVHS boys are 2-1.
Girls: SVHS girls have 3 ties and 3 losses, while SLV girls are 3-3.
The next three after the winter break games for both schools are all vs. Santa Cruz Coast Athletic League opponents:
–       Both boys and girls on SVHS teams play vs. Santa CruzHigh School on January 5 and 6.
–       It is an away in Watsonville for SVHS vs. St. Francis Central Coast Catholic High School on January 7 and 8.
–       It’s a big local rivalry game when SVHS hosts SLVHS girls on January 12 and boys on 13th.
–       For SLVHS, bracketing the above games vs. SVHS, Cougars host St Francis High School Sharks on January 5 and 6, followed by Harbor High School on January 14.
Basketball
Girls:
SVHS won the Santa Clara Tip Off Classic last week in their familiar dominating style, almost doubling their three (Andrew Hill High School, Lowell High School and Santa Clara High School) opponents for a total score of 211-127, but had a hiccup on Saturday December 19, and lost to St. Francis High School Lancers at the San Jose Presentation HS tournament, 60-51.
SLVHS are 2-2, playing next on December 26 vs. MissionSan JoseHigh School in the annual Monterey Bay Sweet 16 tournament.
Boys:
SLVHS is faring better to date with a 6-2 record, SVHS is at 3-2.
Wrestling
 At the Sunnyvale FremontHigh School’s Annual Weber Lawson Memorial Tournament on December 12, SLVHS’ 120-pound Jeremiah Aguirre went to the semi-final, 132-pound Dominic Aguirre to the quarter-final and 152-pound Jesse Berry to the semi-final.
 It’s a very busy preseason for SVHS, for both boys and girls wrestlers.

At the SCCAL Novice tournament, the results were:
–       Gavin Jacobsen (126) – 3rd Place
–       Cody Burnett (145) -2nd Place
–       Alexander Lopez (152) – 3rd Place
–       Riley Buffington (170) –  4th Place
Girls:
The Half Moon Bay Peninsula Invitational results were:
–       Olivia Hur (101) – 2nd  Place
–       Gabby Sandoval (116) – 2nd Place
–       Kendal Darneal (121) – 3rd Place
–       Cailin Smestad (189) – 6th Place
 At the Overfelt Royals the results were:
–       Devin Gunderson (139) – 3rd Place
–       Gabby Sandoval (117) – 3rd Place
–       Kendal Darneal (122) – 3rd Place
–       Cassidy O’Brien-Kerr (127) – 3rd Place
–       Cailin Smestad (190) – 4th Place
 The local wrestling landmark, California Coast Classic, is coming up for both schools on December 28 and 29 at Aptos High School.
