Bethany men throttled despite Moore’s 30
The Bethany University men’s basketball team dropped to 1-14 on the season, 0-2 in the California Pacific Coast Conference, with a 77-47 loss to Holy Names University in Oakland on Saturday, Jan. 9.
In the loss, Tauran Moore went 5-of-6 from behind the 3-point line and finished with a season-high 30 points to lead the Bruins.
The Bruins played at home against Menlo College after press time Thursday, Jan. 14. They will compete next against Pacific Union College on Saturday, Jan. 16.
SLV girls fall in league
Despite a first-half goal from Mariah Miles on an assist from Lindsey McClish, the San Lorenzo Valley girls soccer team fell to Aptos High, 2-1, on Tuesday, Jan. 12.
The team is 0-1-1 in league play after tying 2-2 with Harbor High.
The team’s next home game is at 3:30 p.m. Tuesday, Jan. 19, against Soquel High.
Poker tournament to benefit SV baseball
A Texas Hold ’em poker tournament to benefit the Scotts Valley High School baseball team will be Jan. 23 at Maya Restaurant, 3115 Scotts Valley Drive, in Scotts Valley.
Entry fee is $40 and includes a buffet dinner. There will be unlimited buy-ins in the first 1½ hours.
The tournament is limited to 64 players, and tickets must be bought in advance.

Pros on hand for baseball clinic
Professional baseball players Robbie Erlin and Kevin Eichorn will be on hand during a Little League and Pony League baseball tune-up clinic at Scotts Valley High on Feb. 6.
The clinic is a fundraiser for Scotts Valley High School baseball. Falcons head coach Buddy Carrigan and assistants Rick Erlin and Bob Stevens will lead the clinic.
Registration for the all-skills clinic opens Jan. 23 and is limited to 150 players.

Hospital golf tournament
The ninth annual Dominican Hospital Foundation Golf Tournament is scheduled for June 18 at DeLaveaga Golf Club in Santa Cruz.
Proceeds from this year’s tournament will go toward a mobile medical clinic that will travel around Santa Cruz County to serve communities that lack access to regular health screening.
There are various sponsorship levels for the tournament, ranging from $150 to $5,000.
