Scotts Valley sinks SLV in tennis
Both Scotts Valley singles players Zoe Pelletier and Capella Yee defeated their respective opponents, Angie Hershberger and Joe Carlisle, 6-0, 6-0 to help lead the Falcons to a 7-0 win over the Cougars in their Santa Cruz Athletic League season-opening win Tuesday, Sept. 14.
The top doubles team of Marielle Fesmire and Nicole Beans defeated Aly Rosario and Mina Narachi 6-0, 6-0 as well.
Hole-in-one at Valley Gardens
Mike English of Aptos sank a hole-in-one at Valley Gardens Golf Course on Aug. 29. English, 45, made the ace from 108 yards out on the third hole using a 7-iron.
Local soccer club nets a win
The Scotts Valley San Lorenzo Valley Soccer Club’s under-11 boys soccer team, the Wolverines, started its season right by defeating host Santa Clara Sporting by a score of 4-2 on Saturday, Sept. 11.
Forward Kyle Raymond scored in the sixth minute, Matt Olson chipped the ball in two minutes later, and three minutes later Jack Cooper scored following a direct free kick from Olson that the Santa Clara goalie couldn’t cleanly field.
In the second half, goalie Jasper Stemm made several key saves, and Olson scored on a pass from Cooper.
The Wolverines next play in Pleasanton on Sept. 25.
