Cougar wins Stanford invite in Division IV
San Lorenzo Valley High freshman Anna Maxwell finished 14th overall and won the Division IV title at the Stanford Invitational cross country meet Saturday, Sept. 25.
Six runners finished for the Cougars, and the team’s performance bumped them into fourth place in the Central Coast Section rankings and into the top spot in Division IV.
Taylor Johnson had been the most recent SLV runner to win the meet when she did so in 2006.
Scotts Valley sophomore Vanessa Fraser finished third in Division IV in the race. Her team is now ranked eighth in the section.
The SLV boys, led by sophomore Cody Johnson’s 17th-place finish, Landis McMillan in 31st and Nick Hicks in 33rd in D4, are ranked sixth overall in the CCS.
Junior Sean Kennedy finished 95th, followed by teammate Andrew Brockmann at 114th of 238 runners in Division IV.
Scotts Valley tennis tops St. Francis
After a surprise win over Aptos last week, the Scotts Valley girls tennis team improved to 4-1 on the season with a 7-0 sweep of St. Francis on Tuesday, Sept. 28.
At No. 1 singles, Capella Yee defeated Alexy Truman, 6-1, 6-0. A highlight of the match was senior Jade Chang’s winning shots in the match tiebreaker at No. 3 doubles in her first varsity match.
