Valley Pop Warner wins
The Pop Warner Valley Youth Association Mitey Mite football team, which is made up of 7- to 9-year-old boys and girls, extended its winning streak to five games Saturday, Oct. 16, with a 30-6 victory over Santa Cruz Pop Warner.  
“I am very proud of their hard work and commitment,” head coach Steve Markey said. 
The team has two remaining games —in Mountain View on Oct. 23 and  at SLV High on Oct. 31 — during the Pop Warner Mitey Mite Bowl, which will be hosted by VYA.  
The league is proud of its Tiny Mite football players, who are 5 to 7 years old, and Mitey Mite & Pee Wee Cheer squads who are all having outstanding seasons.
VYA Pop Warner serves San Lorenzo Valley, Scotts Valley and Bonny Doon.
Registration for 2011 begins in January. 
Predators hold steady in first place
The Scotts Valley-San Lorenzo Valley Soccer Club Predators are proving to be a top contender in the Norcal League, under-10 Bronze Division.
Currently in first place with a 5-1-0 record, the Predators have beat teams from San Jose, Palo Alto and Cupertino. 
With strong offense lead by Connor Wilson, the team has scored 31 goals. Solid defense, by Garrett Hormel, Philip Garrison, Mason Buchanan and goalie Zach Washburn, have kept opponents scoreless in 4-of-6 games. Rounding out the team are Vincent Beraut, Mark Carling, Henry Danner, Nick Endres, Maverick Jud and Shay Monowitz. 
The Predators next face Gryphons Soccer Club in Burlingame.
Wolverines win again
The Scotts Valley-San Lorenzo Valley under-11 Wolverines defeated the Santa Cruz Sharks, 4-1, in Santa Cruz on Saturday, Oct. 16.
The score was tied 0-0 at the half before the Wolverines’ offense exploded for four goals in the first 15 minutes of the second period.
Taj Yanez started the scoring on an assist from Kyle Raymond. Next, Matt Olson scored with a shot over the goalie’s head and under the crossbar from 30 yards. Kyle Raymond then added two goals to put the game out of reach.
The Wolverines nearly had the shutout but conceded a penalty kick in the waning minutes of the game.
The win improves the Wolverines’ league record to 4-0-1.
Falcon tennis leads league
The Scotts Valley High girls tennis team is 8-1 on the season after a narrow 4-3 win over Santa Cruz High last week.
The No. 3 and No. 4 singles players Zoe Pelletier and Danica Houseman won their matches, and Scotts Valley doubles duo’s of Marielle Fesmire and Nicole Beans and Nicole LePort and Serena Strehlke defeated their opponents to give Scotts Valley the win.
