SLV Pop Warner wins bowl game
The VYA Pop Warner Mitey Mites finished their 2010 season with a tight 24-12 win over East Palo Alto in the Mitey Mite Bowl. The team finished with a 6-3-1 record, coached by Pete Martinez.
The local Pee Wee Cheer team took fifth at the Conference Championships at Santa Clara University. They will compete at the Regional Invitational on Nov. 26.
Senior bocce champions crowned
Team Doce, made up of players John Crivello, Carol Ramirez, Al Telles and Jill Cramer finished atop the Scotts Valley Senior Center Fall Bocce League. The second-place team was Nick Karo, Bob Mullis, Eugene Martin and David McClay.
The spring league starts April 1. Those interested in signing up can register until March 15 at the senior center, 438-8666. A potluck and trophy awards conclude each playoff tournament. No experience is needed, and lessons are given.

Cougar boys win first-round water polo game
The San Lorenzo Valley High boy’s water polo team defeated Harbor 8-7 in the first round of the Santa Cruz Coast Athletic League playoffs on Tuesday, Nov. 2.
The Cougars played top-seeded Soquel after press time Wednesday, Nov. 3.
The top-ranked Cougar girl’s team played Thursday, Nov. 4, also after press time, in the second round of the SCCAL tournament. A win by both teams would set them up to play for the championship Saturday, Nov. 6.
P.A.L. football teams in playoffs
All four Scotts Valley Police Athletic Association youth football teams qualified for the playoffs at the conclusion of league play. The Junior PeeWees finished second in their division; the PeeWees finished second; the Junior Midgets finished first; and the Midgets finished second. Playoffs start Saturday, with the teams on the road.
Pride wins soccer championship
The under-19 girls Scotts Valley/San Lorenzo Valley Pride soccer team captured the District 2 gold division soccer title after winning the league championship the previous weekend.
The Pride finished with a 7-0-1 record in league play to take first.
The team, which plays a classic possession-based style, leads the league in both goals scored, 22, and fewest goals allowed, 4.
The team capped the season with the district championship in Morgan Hill with a 2-0 win in the final over a determined Santa Clara squad. After two wins and a draw in the preliminary matches earned them the top seed and berth in the title match, midfielder Megan Morris opened the scoring early in the second half. Forward Olivia Gonzalez added a second midway through. Keeper Maria Warzecha recorded the shutout.
