Pride win soccer tourney
The Pride, the Scotts Valley-San Lorenzo Valley under-13 girls soccer team, finished first in District II CYSA league play, Silver B division. In the District II tournament, Pride defeated Pacifica United, 4-1, and tied the Mid-Peninsula Strikers, 1-1. The team also tied Burlingame 0-0, setting up a championship contest between the Pride and the Mid-Peninsula Strikers.
Megan Miller scored eight minutes into the second half, and goalie Grace Giguiere successfully defended a penalty shot. The Strikers scored with just a few minutes left on the clock. Regulation ended tied 1-1.
That forced a shootout the Pride won 3-2, clinching victory.
Players for the Pride come from Scotts Valley, the San Lorenzo Valley and Aptos. They are Nikiya Bechtle, Allie Carl, Madelynne Cope, Grace Giguiere, Mary Lonhart, Megan Lonhart, Lily Maness, Megan Marro, Katelyn McNulty, Megan Miller, Jessica Mittelbusher, Taylor Owen, Anna Payne, Emma Russell, Marissa Sion and Veronica Vickers.
Football all-stars named
The Scotts Valley Police Athletic League all-stars were announced this week. The nominated All-Stars will play an All-Star game at 10 a.m. Saturday, Dec. 4, at the San Jose P.A.L. stadium.

Erlin named an all-star
Hickory Crawdads pitcher Robbie Erlin, a 2009 Scotts Valley High School graduate, was named to Baseball America’s Low-A All Star team for 2010.
Erlin, a 2009 third-round draft pick by the Texas Rangers, blew past South Atlantic League hitters during the 2010 season.
In his first full season of professional baseball, Erlin started 17 games, pitched in 28, recorded a 6-3 record and became the first Hickory pitcher to win an SAL earned-run average title with a 2.12 ERA.
On the season, Erlin struck out 125 batters, allowing only 17 walks and 89 hits in 114.2 innings pitched, for a SAL-leading 0.92 WHIP.
