Predators finish league undefeated
The Scotts Valley-San Lorenzo Valley Soccer Club’s under-10 boys team, the Predators, went undefeated with eight wins and two ties this season.
In tournament play, the Predators vied for a top spot in the Norcal State Cup in Manteca against 24 teams in their bracket. After winning two three-game rounds (6-0-0), the team ranked fourth out of 24. Advancing to the third round, the Predators narrowly lost to Davis Legacy (2-1) in overtime during a single-elimination game.
Youth baseball team shows well in tourney
The Santa Cruz County General 10-and-under baseball team fared well in their first tournament of the season in Fremont.
The team, made up of all-stars from SLV Little League, Santa Cruz American and Watsonville American, finished 1-1 in pool play and fell in the semifinals in bracket play the following day.
The team’s only loss was to the Fremont Reds 11-and-under team.
SLV’s Julian Auldridge had an exceptional weekend, including four runs, four stolen bases, two doubles and three runs batted in. The Generals will play in another 11-year-old tournament this weekend in Greenfield.
Football player honored
Pee Wee Scotts Valley Police Athletic League football all-star Tate Smith received the league’s Most Inspirational Player award this year.
SLV Little League sign-ups ongoing
Registration for San Lorenzo Valley Little League is ongoing at www.slvlittleleague.org.
First-time registrants must have a copy of the child’s birth certificate available. There are still sibling discounts available.
SLV drops close game to Brenham
Blake Bechtle led the San Lorenzo Valley High boy’s basketball team with 24 points and Jared Johnson scored 10 points with six rebounds, five assists, four blocks and four steals for the Cougars in a 61-58 loss to Branham High in nonleague play Tuesday, Dec. 14.
Falcons boys basketball snag win over Greenfield.
Falcon guard Desmond Balco scored 24 points to lead Scotts Valley over Greenfield High, 71-50, on Tuesday. Jack Pasquini netted 14 points for the Falcons (4-4).
