Boys to play for consolation championship at Condor Classic
Scotts Valley High fell 54-45 to Seaside in pool play Monday, Dec. 27, at the Condor Classic at North Monterey County High. Corey Reitsma scored 21 points for the Falcons.
The Falcons then defeated the Pajaro Valley High, 68-41, on the shooting of senior captain Desmond Balco, who nailed five 3-pointers on his way to 28 points.
The Falcons played in the consolation championship after press time Wednesday, Dec. 29, against Soledad High, who they beat 66-63 on Dec. 2. Going into that game, the Falcons were 5-5 under new coach Drew Snelgrove. League play will open in January.
The San Lorenzo Valley Boys basketball team fell to Piedmont High, 62-53 in a nonleague game Dec. 23 at Piedmont High.
Falcon girls to play for consolation championship
Scotts Valley High fell to Casa Grande, 34-40, on Dec. 27 in one of the largest girls basketball tournaments in the nation — the 149-team, 16-division West Coast Jamboree Tournament at Las Positas College in Modesto. Nadene Hart had a team-high 13 rebounds in the game.
Liz Munger then posted a season-high 28 points as Scotts Valley went on to beat Granite Bay, 64-28, at the West Coast Jamboree.
The consolation championship was played after press time Wednesday. Results will be in next week’s Press-Banner.
Correction
Scotts Valley wrestler David Nice was the top finisher for the Falcons at the Coast Classic Wrestling Tournament, finishing in fourth place at 160 pounds. Nice was inadvertently omitted from the Dec. 24 recap of the tourney, “Monster wrestling tournament showcases local talent” (Page 21).
The Press-Banner regrets the error.
