Holes-in-one announced
Frank Vickner of Santa Cruz hit his first hole-in-one after 15 years of playing golf on the 153-yard, par-3 eighth hole of Valley Gardens Golf Course in Scotts Valley. Vickner is the owner of Bay Area Floors of Aptos. The shot was witnessed by Rob Stuart and Doug Ranson on Jan. 27.
Soquel resident Roger LeGrande hit his first hole-in-one after 30 years of playing golf. Using his aged 4 iron, Legrande nailed his shot on the 158-yard fifth hole at Valley Gardens and finished the round with a score of 79. The shot was witnessed by Joe Niges and Jim Johnson on Tuesday, Feb. 1.
Kellogg wins again
San Lorenzo Valley’s Logan Kellogg wrestled to his fifth tournament win of the season at 191 pounds, winning the prestigious Overfelt Tournament in San Jose on Saturday, Jan. 29.
Kellogg won the tourney by a 9-1 major decision over James Logan’s Chumkaur Dhaliwal.
SLV had three placers: Kellogg, Michael Kraft (fourth at 144 pounds) and Ben Landauer (fourth at 217 pounds).
Falcon girls roll toward league titles
The Scotts Valley Falcons girls soccer team beat St. Francis of Watsonville, 3-0, in league play Jan. 27. Jordan Carlson, Taylor Rohde and Madison Black scored a goal each for the Falcons (6-1), who now sit alone atop the Santa Cruz Coast Athletic League. The Scotts Valley defense, led by senior Aly Bothman, held St. Francis to zero shots on goal for the team’s ninth shutout of the season.
The Scotts Valley High girls basketball team continued its dominance in league play Friday, Jan. 28, when it beat Harbor 57-21. Liz Munger led Scotts Valley (16-4, 8-0 SCCAL) with 25 points, followed by Natalia Ebrahemian, who had 10.
Little League clinic with pros Saturday
Scotts Valley High School, 555 Glenwood Drive, will host a tune-up clinic for Little Leaguers on Saturday, Feb. 5. Several minor league players from the area — Robbie Erlin, Kevin Eichorn, Tyler LaTorre and Adam Carr — will be on hand with Scotts Valley High coach Buddy Carrigan to teach baseball skills to players 6 through 12 years old.
Walk-up registration starts at 8:30 a.m., and the clinic runs from 9 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. Players should take tennis shoes or cleats and a glove. The cost is $30.

Wrestler wins first tournament
Scotts Valley wrestler Chris Youmans won his first tournament of the season in the 145-pound weight class at the Dawn to Dusk invitational at Marin Catholic High School Jan. 29. Drake Smith finished second in the 215-pound division, and David Nice (152) and Grant Margerum (119) both finished in third. Scotts Valley wrapped up sixth place out of 20 teams.
