Bethany gets final regular-season win
Travis Derochowski had a double-double for the Bethany University men’s basketball team as it won its second game of the season over Simpson College, 81-78, on Feb. 18.
Derochowski scored 15 points and grabbed 15 rebounds as the Bruins finished their 2-24 regular season on a high note.
Derek Watson led the team in scoring with 16 points and six assists. Marqus Crawford added 13 for the Bruins, who will play in the Cal Pac Conference Tournament on Friday, Feb. 25. The time and place are to be announced.
Little League opening day approaches
Scotts Valley Little League will celebrate its opening day from 8:30 a.m. to 3 p.m. March 5 at the Little League fields at Vine Hill Elementary School, 151 Vine Hill School Road.
San Lorenzo Valley Little League opens March 12 at the SLV softball field, 7105 Highway 9, in Felton, with times to be announced.
This season, composite bats have been banned from Little League play. However, the ban on some composite bats has been waived. For information on which bats are legal: www.littleleague.org/learn/equipment/approvedcompbats.htm.
Falcons baseball opens with a win
Sean Varenkamp went 2-for-3 with two RBIs and also pitched three scoreless innings as Scotts Valley High began nonleague play with a 10-3 win over visiting Santa Teresa on Tuesday, Feb. 22.
Senior Daniel Bolanos went 2-for-3 with four RBIs, and senior pitcher Brett Levy threw three innings for the win.
The Falcons (1-0) will host Palo Alto at 3:30 p.m. Friday.
